... Hearing loss is one of the MOST common birth defects. Nearly 3 in 1000 children are born with a permanent hearing loss, and another 2 or 3 in 1000 will develop hearing loss later. 

Identifying hearing loss early in a child's life means families can ensure age-appropriate development. 

Most infants in North Carolina re screened for hearing loss at birth, but hearing loss can be discovered at any age. 

BEGINNINGS works with families of children birth to age 22 who are deaf or hard of hearing.
