Celebrating National Speech-Language-Hearing Month 2025: Every Voice Matters

Each May, we celebrate National Speech-Language-Hearing Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about communication, hearing, and language development. Sponsored by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), this month reminds us of the vital role that early identification and intervention play in helping children reach their full potential.

At BEGINNINGS for Parents of Children Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to connect, be understood, and thrive.

Communication Is Connection
From a baby’s first giggle to a teenager’s dream shared out loud, communication is the foundation of how we build relationships, learn, and grow. For children who are deaf or hard of hearing, accessing language is crucial to their development and well-being.

That’s where early support comes in. According to ASHA, hearing loss is one of the most common conditions present at birth, and early detection can significantly improve language, social, and academic outcomes.

How BEGINNINGS Supports Families
At BEGINNINGS, we walk alongside families from the moment they receive a diagnosis. Our mission is to empower parents with the knowledge, tools, and support they need to make informed decisions for their children.

Here’s how we help:

  • Information & Education
We provide clear, unbiased information about hearing loss and communication options.
  • Emotional Support
We understand that this journey can be overwhelming and our Parent Educators offer compassionate support and connections.
  • Resources & Advocacy
We equip families to advocate for their child’s needs—in school, healthcare, and beyond.
  • Connection to Services
We help families access professionals like audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and early intervention programs and more.

Why This Month Matters
National Speech-Language-Hearing Month is not only about raising awareness—it’s about celebrating every child’s right to communicate. Whether through spoken words, sign language, or assistive technology, communication should never be a barrier to connection.
