Our Mission

BEGINNINGS for Parents of Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing is a non-profit that helps parents and families understand hearing loss as well as the diverse needs of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Our impartial support helps families make informed decisions and empowers them to advocate for their child’s needs. We support deaf parents who have children who are hearing and collaborate with the professionals who serve all of our children.

News & Notes

This month’s newsletter is full of inspiration, resources, and summer fun for families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing. From celebrating amazing dads and highlighting DeafBlind Awareness Month to hurricane prep tips, family stories, and exciting events across North Carolina—there’s something for everyone!

Summer is here, and it’s time to embrace longer days, warm weather, and unforgettable family adventures! For families with children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, summer offers a wonderful opportunity to explore new places, create lasting memories, and enjoy activities that support communication, accessibility, and inclusion.

Each June, we observe DeafBlind Awareness Month — a time to honor the strength, resilience, and unique experiences of individuals who live with both hearing and vision loss. Inspired by the birth month of Helen Keller, a pioneer and advocate who was both Deaf and blind, this month is a reminder of the importance of communication access, connection, and community.
